A Fresh Perspective Built on Experience

Cacteye was established in 2018 when Carly realised her love and passion for building surveying could better serve the industry by providing a fresh approach to the profession.

 

In 2022 Harrison hung his toolbelt up from a successful carpentry career to join Carly in the building surveying industry.

 

With a combined 27 years of construction industry experience, Carly and Harrison bring a strong knowledge base and understanding of all construction matters to their projects.

Cacteye has continued to grow and develop since it’s inception, remaining committed to providing Victoria’s South West region with an industry-focused operator that thrives on educating and assisting all parties to achieve compliant and effective construction outcomes.

Carly Haynes

Director and Building Surveyor

Carly is a solution driven and enthusiastic building surveyor that has diverse experience across the residential, commercial, retail and educational sectors.

 

Carly has spent time working as a building surveyor in both local government and private practice sectors, as well as teaching Building Surveying at Vic Uni to support the skill development of students entering the industry.

 

Her years of experience in different roles has enabled her to provide project responses and regulatory feedback in an approachable and rounded manner.

 

When she isn’t immersed in the world of building surveying, Carly enjoys paddle boarding, going to the gym and playing cricket – but only when she makes runs, not ducks.

 

Carly is a registered building practitioner as a Building Surveyor – Unlimited and Building Inspector – Unlimited.

 

Favourite thing about the job: Problem solving and learning new things every day.

Office pet peeve: Leaving the office to get a coffee and coming back to 3 call back requests.

Fun fact about you: Before becoming a building surveyor, I was a barista who didn’t like coffee. Don’t worry – I’m a coffee lover now.

Harrison Haynes

Director and Building Code Consultant

Before starting his building surveying career, Harrison spent over a decade on the tools as a qualified carpenter. His previous career has provided him with a great ability to communicate with builders and trades effectively about building code and statutory requirements applicable to their project in a direct and straightforward manner.

 

Harrison has a thorough understanding of the NCC and Australian Standards associated with residential projects which he applies to assist our clients on a day to day basis.

 

In his spare time, he enjoys working out at the gym, playing old school Gameboy games and playing cricket.

 

Favourite thing about the job: Learning all the different roles and sides of the construction industry.

Office pet peeve: Answering same question over and over

Fun fact about you: I can relate almost every situation back to a quote from The Simpsons.

Blaine Burrell

Building Inspector and Assistant Building Surveyor

Blaine is a passionate and eager building inspector who has worked on a multitude of project types and sizes during his time in industry to date.

 

His continued skill development has provided him with a solid and diverse knowledge base for all matters related to NCC compliance, including how they can be compliantly achieved on site throughout the construction process.

 

Blaine brings a relatable and collaborative approach to his work, both on site inspecting and in the office assessing regulatory matters.

 

Outside of work, Blaine spends his spare time enduro riding, training at Jiu Jitsu, playing sport and catching up with his mates.

 

Blaine is a registered building practitioner as a Building Inspector – Limited.

 

Favorite thing about your job: Working with like minded people and watching a project progress from concept to final product.

Office Pet Peeve: When sticky notes get wasted.

Fun fact: I have a long nose that doesn’t work.

Paige Rigg

Administration Officer

Paige joined Cacteye in 2019 when looking for a change of pace in her work career.

Her approachable nature, timely responses and attention to detail has aided her in becoming well versed in construction and building surveying processes and terminology.

 

Paige’s eagerness to assist clients in understanding the administrative requirements of their applications has made her an invaluable member of the Cacteye team.

 

Outside of her valuable work at Cacteye, Paige enjoys drawing, painting, swimming at the beach and spending time with her family.

 

Favorite thing about your job: When Carly takes me out of the office to a final inspection of a beautiful home.

Office Pet Peeve: When my computer isn’t working and the IT Department asks me if I have tried turning it off and on again.

Fun fact about you: I hate tomato’s but love tomato sauce.

Tessa Burrell

Administration Officer

Joining the team in late 2024, Tessa is a proficient and proactive operator who endeavours to assist on all projects in a responsive and supportive manner.

 

Her love of organisation has brought with it an upgraded level of efficiency and service which have been an invaluable addition to the experience we strive to provide our clients with.

 

In her spare time Tessa loves running, travelling, camping, going to the beach and walking her dog Pip

 

Favorite thing about your job: The variety of different tasks and projects that I get to work on.

Office Pet Peeve: When the printer runs out of paper

Fun fact about you: I travelled around Queensland in a little van with my dog Pip for 6 months

Benji Haynes

Snack Supervisor

Benji takes his role as Snack Supervisor very seriously. Whether he's inspecting lunch crumbs, lounging across important documents, or thoughtfully shedding fur on freshly printed permits, Benji is always adding his unique (and fluffy) touch to the office environment.

With a strong background in napping, sunbeam research, and walking across keyboards at exactly the wrong moment, Benji keeps the team grounded and well-humoured.

 

His commitment to snack quality control is unmatched—though in a shocking twist, he admits he doesn’t actually like snacks all that much. It’s about the principle.

 

Favorite thing about the job: Judging snack choices from a safe distance.
Office pet peeve: When the humans try to eat snacks without sharing.
Fun fact: Has never read the Building Code, but enjoys sitting on it anyway.
